Mary Ann died at the age of 97 in 8/4/1939. She is buried next to her husband in the Raymond Terrace cemetery. All ten of her surviving children were present when she died.

Narrative

Mary Ann, born 21/7/1841, the 2nd child, travelled to Australia with her father Thomas and his other two children, Thomas junior and Rachel. Mary Ann worked as a servant at Eskdale, a farm on the Williams river, south of Seaham. The house still stands. She is recorded in the census of 21/11/1857. Mary Ann had an illegitimate son, John PYWELL, who was baptised 13/6/1858. At this time, she was a servant in Raymond Terrace. The father was John Henry HAWLEY.
Mary Ann married John CAMPBELL on 24/12/1862 at the house of Rev George JAMES, in Morpeth. They were then both living at Millers Forest; Mary Ann a Servant and John a Farmer.
Mary Ann died at the age of 97 in 8/4/1939. She is buried next to her husband in the Raymond Terrace cemetery. All ten of her surviving children were present when she died.

        Thomas Pywell, born in Great Weldon, Northamptonshire, England, was 6th child of John Pywell, a malt maker and wife Rachel nee Richardson John married Rachel at Great Weldon on 12/10/1801. Both parents died before 1854.
        Thomas, who was christened on 8/1/1815, married Sarah BARWELL, the daughter of John and Mary Barwell, who was born in Gretton Northamptonshire in 1812. They were married in late 1830's. Sarah died somewhere between 1843 and 1854, when Thomas decided to come to Australia with his three children.
        Thomas and his 3 children left in late August 1854 aboard the ship Bengal. The voyage took six months during which 9 people died and were buried at sea. The Pywell's however, all kept in good health. The Bengal arrived in Sydney on 25/2/1855
        The Pywell's moved north to the hunter valley. Sometime later, the family - minus Mary Ann, moved to the Glen Innes area. Here, Thomas Sr selected land in the area. There, he lived with his son until his death. He died 9/2/1881 at Clairville, where he was a Grazier. He was 66 years old. He is buried at Clairville.
