Narrative
Obituary: SYP Pioneer (1st September 1933)
The death is announced of William Gregor, a farmer resident of Yorktown in his 92nd year. He was born at Kapunda when he resided until about 20 years of age. He then went to Wallaroo and was employed in carting copper from the Moonta Mines to the Wallaroo Smelting Works. About two years later he married Miss Elizabeth Brown of Port Wallaroo. In the 70's, Mr Gregor purchased land from Anstey and Gilesand farmed in the Yorktown district for a number of years.
Mr. Gregor's farm lands extended to the centre of Yorketown. The boundary line is now the frontage of the shops now occupied by Mr OH Jaehne and the 'Pioneer Office', Burley's shop and Murdock's garage on the Stansbury road. His brother owned the adjoining farm now occupied by Mr FW Kirsch. Later Mr Gregor purchased a large holding in the Curramulka District when he remained until about sixty years of age when he retired from farm life and lived at Port Vincent until the time of his death. Mrs Gregor predeceased her husband about two yearsago.
There were sixteen children, thirteen of whom are still living. They are Messrs. William (Vic), Walter (Gawler), Charles (Vic), James (Parilla), Gilbert and Len (Curramulka), Mesdames E. Baker (StMorris), E Hayles (Glenelg) J Whelan (Prospect), A Anderson (Vic), EPolkinghorne (Curramulka) and the EM and IE Gregor of Adelaide.
